We Are One
The lights are out, but the children aren’t sleeping
cause every night they just lie in bed weeping.
Mother is crying and father is screaming.
The kids toss and turn all night to keep from dreaming –
cause they think why should they dream when the world is so broken
and what will be left when Time’s curse has spoken
and why shed more tears when God must be joking
and isn’t love just a meaningless token?
It’s hard to believe in anything when there are holes in your walls
and you never punched one there, but you know they’re your fault
and you know that you’re crazy cause he tells you that you are
and you know that you’re broken and you’ll never get far.
Well, children lie down. Put the pillow over your ear.
We sing our songs cause the morning is near.
Do we pray for nothing, and can anyone hear?
And is the world just as cruel as it sometimes appears?
When I bleed I could swear I see the blood from your veins.
When we cry all our tears look the same.
If you feel different there’s no need to be on the run.
Have you heard my friend? Have you heard that we are one?
Well the house is shaking and the children are faking
with their eyes closed to tell themselves they’re sleeping and they’ll be waking
in the morning to the sun shining and their father never drinking,
or at least that’s what they’ve got to keep thinking.
Does anyone ever know what Time will bring?
And why we’re all here – what this world means?
Is our place in the sky or in the song that we sing?
And do we float down the river of Time ‘til we’re free?
When I bleed I could swear I see the blood from your veins.
When we cry all our tears look the same.
If you feel different there’s no need to be on the run.
Have you heard my friend? Have you heard that we are one?
Even if you think that you will fall behind,
if you think that the world will pass you by,
if you think you’ll never make it on your own
you’re not alone.
Whether you are the hunter or the prey
and whether you wanna go or wanna stay
and whether you are in the light or in the dark
that’s who you are.
That’s who we are.
When I bleed I could swear I see the blood from your veins.
When we cry all our tears look the same.
If you feel different there’s no need to be on the run.
Have you heard my friend? Have you heard that we are one?
We are one.
